Spare time now that the kids have gone back to school?

Have the little/big ones gone back to school? Are you loving all the spare time you have, or are you finding yourself watching too much day time TV involving DNA test results?

Well, we decided to take a look at what you could be doing with all this free time you’ve now stumbled upon and how to decide what exactly it is you want to do with it.

1. Create a list

Free time can quickly whittle and before you know it, the kids have come home from school and are demanding food and the TV remote. So, first things first, create a list with a plan of action, this can be for the day, the month or even the year.  Make sure you tick off the completed tasks – it’ll help to make you realise that you’ve accomplished something!

2. Try new things
Is everyone fed up of hearing how you are going to do new things with your life, but never see you actually do anything about it?

It’s time for less talk and more action and start what it is you want to do, and see it through. It could be signing up to a new dance class, learning a new foreign language or joining a running class. Whatever the activity, it’ll increase your ‘me’ time, which is always a good thing.

3. Volunteer
Being able to offer you spare time to a worthwhile cause can be a greatly beneficial and fulfilling experience, not just to the charity you are offering your time to, but to yourself.

The great thing about volunteering is that you can do it in an area that really interests you so you know you’ll be meeting likeminded people.

4. Organise your home

A house is merely a shell and it’s the contents that fill it make it into a home, however, it can sometimes be too easy to just keep cluttering up your home with stuff that’s no longer used or needed.

For instance, do you really need that toy in the loft they used to play with all those years ago? Or could you pass it on to a friend or family member with a baby who will enjoy it just as much as your little one did?

Once you start decluttering you’ll soon find it strangely therapeutic. You could then make some money by selling off your unwanted goods either by an online auction site or a good old-fashioned car boot sale.

Just make sure you shred old documents instead of throwing them away so as to prevent identity theft.

5. Go back to school

Maybe you left school all those years ago by running out those doors vowing never to return, but sometimes hindsight can be a wonderful thing.

Many adults regret their education or lack of, but it’s never too late to learn, and with an abundance of courses you can do from home, there’s no excuse not to really.

If the kids can do it…

6. Indulge in your hobby

Hobbies often allow you to expand your knowledge, improve upon existing skills and in some cases, can become a lucrative business opportunity. If you find that people keep asking where you get your hand-knitted scarves from, then imagine being able to hand over your business card? Or what about being asked if you could play a gig with your Ukulele?

A hobby can turn into your source of income and being paid to do something you love isn’t too bad!

7. Pets
Have you always longed for a Lassie of your own? Now could be the time to get a pet as you have the free time that your new pet will require and need. Don’t rush into this decision lightly though as a pet takes a lot of consideration. It’s a complete lifestyle change, but if you decide that it’s right for you and your family, it can be a fantastic addition to the household.

Be sure to check out your local animal shelters for pets that need a new loving home.
