Frequently asked questions about right to work checks

Registered for a redwigwam account and wondering why we need to check your right to work? Or unsure about what a right to work check is?

Here are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about right to work checks with redwigwam.

What is a right to work check?

A right to work check is a is a legal requirement for anyone who starts a job in the UK.

As an employer, we have a responsibility to prevent illegal working, and we use these checks to determine if you are allowed to work in the UK (and how many hours a week you are allowed to work for if necessary).

We are required to complete the right to work check before you are able to book onto a job and also to keep a record of the correct combination of approved documents.

If your right to work is time-limited (by a visa for example), we will also perform follow-up checks.

Who has to complete a right to work check?

Everyone who wants to book on to any job with redwigwam has to complete a right to work check.

When you complete any role for redwigwam, you are employed by us. This means we take care of any tax and National Insurance deductions from your salary, and also means you are eligible for holiday pay and to join our pension scheme.

As your employer, we have a legal obligation to prove you have right to work in the UK and will ask to see the relevant documents so we can prove this.

As your employer, we are legally obliged to keep your details on record. These are stored securely and will be destroyed after the required amount of time.

Do I have to complete these checks to have an account?

You can have a redwigwam account without completing your right to work checks, but you will not be able to book onto any jobs.

We would recommend completing the checks as soon as you are able so you are ready to book onto available work (popular jobs book very quickly so we really don't want you to miss out), but we also understand that some people prefer to wait until they are ready to book work.

If you have any concerns about uploading your documents, please leave a message via the red button in the bottom right of your screen and one of the team will get back to you as soon as possible.
