How to find and hire new workers

Whether you are a big brand or a small business, the thought of recruiting for new staff can feel overwhelming – especially if you’re going to need someone in a hurry.
But panic not. We’re here to help.
Here’s our quick guide on how to find and hire new workers.
First things first, think about what the job is you need someone to do. Even if you’re replacing someone, it’s worth reviewing their role and responsibilities. Then also answer other practical questions, such as:
- What is the pay rate?
- How long do you need them for?
- Is it a permanent job?
- What are the hours?
Once you’ve established the basics, you’ll need a job description. This is where you really sell the role to prospective employees. We’ve written a whole blog post dedicated to this which you can read here.
Now you’ve got the details and the description sorted, it’s time to advertise your role. We’ve outlined three options for posting jobs roles below.
Before you pick your route, think about how quickly you need someone to start – and how much you are prepared to pay for this – as this will influence the route you take.
The ‘Go It Alone’ approach
Ask other members of staff if they know someone who needs a job. Maybe post on your social media accounts, post in a couple of local Facebook groups.
The pros: It’s cheap.
The cons: It doesn’t always work, and it takes loads of time…
Hire a recruitment consultant
Recruitment consultants specialise in finding candidates for roles. They’ll take your job description and send it to any relevant candidates on their books. Those who are interested are sent over to you to screen and arrange an interview. You then pick the person you feel is most suited for the role. This route is effective but can be time-consuming and you can expect to pay a sizable fee for this.
The pros: You’ll find a range of candidates ready to interview
The cons: It can take days or weeks to get candidates through and screened/vetted. It’s expensive.
We’re an online job booking platform and it really couldn’t be easier to find staff. You post a job with us and it is automatically matched to all nearby job seekers. They then book the jobs they want to complete.
Because our database is so big, we have success with roles which are anything from an hour here and there to full-time employment.
It’s hassle free as we deal with all aspects of payroll – and invoice you for the workers hourly rate (and associated payroll costs) and a small booking fee. Much cheaper than a traditional recruitment agency – and way more effective than going it alone.
The pros: It’s affordable and it’s very quick. Post a job today and have someone ready to work tomorrow.
The cons: Erm. There aren’t any!
